Karl Eugen Robert Scharrier and Anna Frieda Meffert: funeral announcements

The translation of this is something to the effect of:

For their intimate kindness on the occasion of the passing of my dear wife, our Mother

Anna Scharrier (maiden name: Meffert)

We say best wishes and thanks

Karl Scharrier and children

Gerogstrasse 40, Vaihingen-Enz, Altersheim in the August of 1961

Vaihingen/Enz, Altenheim, on the 20th March 1962

Our dear, dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother and uncle

Karl Scharrier

today, unexpectedly followed his wife to their eternal home

The grieving who remain:

Alice Merkel (maiden name: Scharrier)
Stuttgart S, Liststrasse 49 (address)

funeral: Monday, 22 March 1962, 14:30 clock, from the cemetery chapel from Vaihingen

I looked up the cemeteries in Vaihingen and there is only one listed (that is if he was buried in Vaihingen...there are nearby cities, each with a cemetery)...here is the google maps satellite shot anyway:

Something interesting about the funeral announcement of Karl Scharrier is that his daughter Alice is listed as the grieving child, but has a married name: Merkel. I have no place in my records she was married, so that's kind of cool. I also looked up the address that she was listed at the time of death and am posting the pictures (thanks google map).

Karl Eugen Robert Scharrier and Anna Frieda Meffert: church records

Karl and Anna Scharrier were my great-great grandparents on my dad's side. These are most likely records that their church branch in Germany gave to them when they moved to the United States after World War II to give to their new ward/branch when they arrived. I already knew all the dates but something really cool on them are actual addresses of where they came from and where they were going to. I am pretty sure the addresses are for the mission homes of each perspective place.

If you notice the address in Germany is 7 Beethovenstrasse. I decided to look it up using google maps and I got this street view which I thought was kind of cool:

Then I looked up 7829 90th Road and got this street view:

Welcome to My Blog

Family history is something my family has been doing for awhile and something my mom carried on extensively before she passed away. I have been carrying around documents and pictures, never quite knowing the best way to get them "out" to people who might be interested in viewing. So, today, I decided to start a blog!

I guess you can say family history is a part of my own family traditions, a part of my religious beliefs and something that is just really interesting in general. In Malachi 4:5-6 it states:

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:

And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

In this process, I hope to turn my hearts to my fathers and hopefully meet some family and friends along the way.

Whether you are a religious person or not, I can promise that you will find this entire process of figuring out who you are and where you come from rewarding and inspirational.
